![]() | Thad Frerking , DVM Thad Frerking grew up with a natural love of animals and completed his undergraduate studies at Kansas State University, majoring in Animal Science. He then went on to complete his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2002, using his elder sister Annette, also a veterinarian, as inspiration. Dr. Frerking has been living in Las Vegas since May 2002, and proudly opened South Valley Animal Hospital on May 8th, 2006. Since then, he has appreciated the years spent building a relationship with the Southern Highlands community, taking reward in managing the hospital and meeting the needs of the pets and pet owners that come through the clinic. In his spare time away from the hospital, he enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, reading, and spending time with his son. His love of animals is evident not only in the care he takes of his patients and practice, but in his own relationship with his two furry beasts- a silly Black Labrador named Manhattan and his couch potato of an English Bulldog, Rudy. |
![]() | James Jowanna , DVM James Jowanna was born and raised here in Las Vegas- a rare native to the community. He completed his bachelors of science degree at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. After graduating from college, James worked full time for a few years as a veterinary technician and at a biotechnology company in Northern California. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the college of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. Since graduating, Dr. Jowanna decided to return home to Las Vegas to practice. He has a special interest in medicine, nutrition, dermatology, ophthamology, and surgery. During his free time, James enjoys dining out with family and friends, traveling, and spending time outdoors at the beautiful Red Rock Canyon. He shares his home with his dog, Coco, and cat, Oasten. |
![]() | Tyler Ley , DVM Tyler Ley graduated from Colorado State University's School of Veterinary Medicine in May 2010. After living in Colorado his entire life, he decided to branch out and move to his girlfriend's hometown of Las Vegas. South Valley Animal hospital was fortunate enough to gain his knowledge as an associate right after his completion of vet school. His interests within veterinary medicine include surgery, dentistry, and dermatology. Dr. Ley's father, a practicing veterinarian of 29 years, fostered his enthusiasm for animals and veterinary medicine at an early age- his passion for which, has flourished ever since. During his spare time, Dr. Ley enjoys hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and canyoneering. He also loves being outdoors with his beloved Chocolate Labrador, Sadie. |
![]() | Jade E. Tenberg , DVM Jade Tenberg was born on Long Island, NY but moved to Pennsylvania when she was five. Jade's love for animals started early; her first word was "Farrah," the name of her childhood Siberian Husky. Throughout high school, Jade lived on a private horse farm in Bucks County, a northern suburb of Philadelphia, with her family, several barn cats, and a Great Dane named Navigator. It was Jade's lifelong love for animals, horses especially, that inspired her veterinary career. She completed her Bachelors of Science degree in biology in 3.5 years at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA while working part-time as a veterinary assistant at a few small animal hospitals. She then moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to pursue her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine. During the summer of 2008, Jade was a microbiology intern for the USDA. The following summer, she was awarded an NIH grant to do research using stem cells from adipose (fat) as a potential treatment for acute kidney injury. Jade's special interests include theriogenology (reproduction/breeding), ophthalmology, and dermatology. She is a member of the Society for Theriogenology (SFT), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). Jade's pet family includes a retired pony mare in Tampa, FL. In her free time, Jade enjoys traveling, watching live shows, road cycling, and yoga. |
![]() | Michele Moore, Office Manager Michele has been a valued member of the South Valley team since January 2008. Raised by a family of veterinarians, her love of animals was developed early. Michele lovingly shares her life with four furry children, two chihuahuas named Oscar and Kaja, a michevious poodle mix named Zoie, and cat named Roz. |
